New Delhi, Sep 9: The G20 Summit 2023, a social occasion of the world’s most remarkable leaders, started off today at Bharat Mandapam, a majestic scene that reflects India’s way of life and custom. The summit, which will be held from September 9 to 10, will see the support of leaders like US President Joe Biden, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, and Chinese President Xi Jinping, among others.
The summit, which is being held without precedent for India as well as in South Asia, aims to address pressing worldwide issues such as environmental change, obligation, food security, sustainability, and international clash. The topic of the summit is “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” or “One Earth, One Family, One Future”, featuring India’s vision of a harmonious and inclusive world.
Bharat Mandapam is situated in the International Exhibition-cum-Convention Center (IECC) complex in Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. The complex, which was introduced on July 26, is India’s largest MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) destination. It is designed to host international events of various scales and themes, going from exhibitions and exchange fairs to conventions and conferences.
The complex is also known for its cultural ‘hall’, which showcases India’s rich and diverse culture through physical and virtual exhibitions. Visitors can encounter the history, legacy, craftsmanship, and cuisine of various regions of India through intelligent displays and immersive technologies. The complex also houses a 29-foot-tall bronze statue of Nataraja, the cosmic artist and a symbol of India’s way of life and tradition.
Bharat Mandapam, which derives its name from Lord Basaveshwara’s concept of Anubhav Mandapam, is the crown gem of the complex. A grand corridor can oblige up to 10,000 people at a time. It has a state-of-the-workmanship sound and lighting system, a high-resolution Drove wall, and a retractable roof that can open up to the sky. The lobby can be used for various purposes, such as plenary sessions, cultural programs, award ceremonies, and banquets.
The lobby also has a novel element that sets it separated from different venues: it can change its shape and size as indicated by the needs of the occasion. The lobby has movable partitions that can make various configurations and layouts. For instance, the corridor can be isolated into four smaller halls for parallel sessions or breakout meetings. On the other hand, the corridor can be expanded to make a bigger space for mega events or grand celebrations.
The G20 Summit 2023 is the first significant occasion to be held at Bharat Mandapam since its initiation. The summit will give an open door to India to showcase its achievements and aspirations to the worldwide local area. It will also feature the job of Bharat Mandapam as a versatile and grand space for international events.
The summit will include two sessions on “One Earth” and “One Family”, trailed by a functioning lunch and various respective meetings on the first day. The second day will have a session on “One Future” and a closing function. The summit will close with a joint leaders’ declaration, as would be considered normal to mirror the consensus and responsibility of the G20 members on various worldwide challenges.
